Shirley Muldowney is an American drag racer who is widely regarded as the first female professional drag racer. She began her career in the 1960s and quickly rose to fame, becoming the first woman to win a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Top Fuel championship in 1977. She went on to win two more Top Fuel championships in 1980 and 1982, and was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2002. Muldowney has been credited with paving the way for female racers in the sport, and has been featured in several documentaries and films.
