Ron Meeks is an American football coach and former player who is currently the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). He was born on August 27, 1954 in Jacksonville, Florida. Meeks attended the University of South Carolina, where he played college football as a defensive back. He was a three-year starter and was named All-ACC in 1975. Meeks began his coaching career in 1977 as a graduate assistant at South Carolina. He then served as the defensive backs coach at Appalachian State (1978–79), East Carolina (1980–81), and Duke (1982–83). In 1984, Meeks was hired as the defensive backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He then served as the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings (1985–86) and the St. Louis Rams (1987–88). In 1989, Meeks was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts. He held that position for 11 years, helping the team to the playoffs in 1995 and 1996. In 2000, Meeks was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers. He held that position for seven years, helping the team to the Super Bowl in 2003. In 2007, Meeks returned to the Colts as their defensive coordinator. He has held that position ever since, helping the team to the Super Bowl in 2009 and 2010. Meeks started coaching in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys in 1991 and coached for the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins and St. Louis Rams, before joining the Indianapolis Colts in 2002. He resigned as the Colts defensive coordinator on January 20, 2009. He was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers on January 26, 2009. His contract with the Panthers expired after the 2010 season. He was re-signed as their defensive backs coach on January 17, 2011. On January 24, 2012 Meeks agreed to become the new defensive backs coach of the San Diego Chargers.
