He was known for his roles in films such as The Opening of Misty Beethoven, The Devil in Miss Jones, and Debbie Does Dallas. He was also a prolific director and producer of adult films. Gillis was a member of the X-Rated Critics Organization and was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2003. He was also a member of the Adult Video News Hall of Fame. Gillis died on February 19, 2010, at the age of 66.
